In original New 52 Continuity, the Justice League formed following an invasion of Earth by Darkseid. One of their earliest foes was Starro the Conquerer. The heroes, inspired by their victory, formed a team not unlike the historical Justice Society of America or its lesser-known successor, the Justice Experience, christening it the Justice League. While the team's actual first meeting is debated, prime amongst the contenders was when the heroes who would eventually comprise the league fought off an attack by the alien Appellaxians, which resulted in them nearly being turned into trees before emerging victorious. Hal was among founding members of the Justice League. Īt various points Hal has fought against Evil Star, Black Hand and Hector Hammond. He attacked Sinestro and turned him in to the Corps, earning Sinestro's lifelong enmity. At some point, however, Hal discovered Sinestro had enslaved Korugar using his ring. Hal and Sinestro worked well together and became friends. On completion, he was assigned to Thaal Sinestro of Korugar. Hal accepted and was summoned for basic training to the Corps headquarters on the planet Oa. Sur wanted Hal to replace him in the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic police force that had safeguarded the universe for billions of years. He was abducted by a dying alien, Abin Sur. Years later, Hal had been kicked out of the military for assaulting an officer, and was reduced to an engineer giving planes tune-ups.

Refusing to bow down to fear, he followed in his father's footsteps and became a military test pilot, despite being terrified every time he flew. Īs a child, Hal was traumatized by watching his father, a pilot, die in a plane crash. His father is Catholic, while his mother is Jewish. 3) Green Lantern Corps (Vol.Hal was raised in a multi-religious household. The Hal Jordan version was created by John Broome and Gil Kane after an initial concept by Julius Schwartz, first appearing in Showcase #22 ( 1959). The Alan Scott version of Green Lantern was created by Bill Finger and Martin Nodell, first appearing in All-American Comics #16 ( 1940). Muslim engineer Simon Baz would become the sixth Green Lantern and PTSD victim Jessica Cruz became the seventh after overcoming the Ring of Volthoom from Power Ring of the Crime Syndicate.

The Corps has since been rebuilt with all Lanterns serving simultaneously. Kyle Rayner became the fifth and only Green Lantern when Jordan turned into the evil Parallax and destroyed the Corps during Emerald Twilight. The architect John Stewart and later the brash Guy Gardner were both originally introduced as potential replacements for Jordan. There have been several other human Green Lanterns of Sector 2814.

Their timelines were merged during the Crisis on Infinite Earths, and it was explained that Scott's magic ring taps into the Starheart. Jordan became a founding member of the Justice League on Earth-One, and Scott was a member of the Justice Society on Earth-Two. The Guardians of the Universe on Oa give these Lanterns rings, again powered by a battery, but also requiring strong willpower to be wielded, and sent them to patrol all 3600 sectors of the known universe. "Green Lantern" was re-imagined in the Silver Age as an intergalactic peacekeeping force called the Green Lantern Corps, with test pilot Hal Jordan serving as the new Green Lantern. The original (during the Golden Age) was businessman Alan Scott, who wore a magic power ring that created energy constructs and had to be charged using his mystic lantern. Green Lantern is a name that has been used by many characters in the DC Universe, appearing in two distinct legacies.
